Jordan Veiga contemplates the meaning of art, I cannot help but having a similar and nagging sensation. Artists often subjectively interpret events, scenes, patterns, etc., meaning that they create from perception, and I can’t help but have my own interpretation of their renditions. Within Jordan’s blog, he too has seemingly simple artworks, yet, as we both state, the artists often put much symbolism and subjectivity into their work. Jordan and I both use The Fountain, by Duchamp, in an effort to convey our two different but similar points. Jordan argues that the constitution of art relies upon the viewer, and I argue that art is not as simple as it seems. The connection between our two blogs, is that we both recognize that “these art pieces and video clips are very unique in their own way and the pieces all have special meaning behind them”(“What is Art?”) Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, and what might seem to be a beautiful or important aspect of the piece to me may in fact seem ugly or unimportant to the next viewer.
